Does God really exist? This is a question that everyone should ask as the existence of God has enormous implications on our lives and destinies. If God does not exist, not only would our lives become meaningless, we would also ultimately end in death. In such a scenario, it doesn't matter anymore how we live our lives; there would be no hope for deliverance from evil, aging, disease and ultimately, death. However, if God does exist, life will have a whole new meaning because there will be hope and redemption. We would then be able to know God and His love for us in a personal way. God's existence will thus make a tremendous life-changing difference for us!
The following story, one of the best that I've read, explains the existence of God...
A man went to a barber shop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. They started to have a good conversation and talked about many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: "Look man, I don't believe that God exists."
"Why do you say that?" asked the customer. The barber replied: "Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God really exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving God who permits all of these things." The customer thought for a moment but didn't respond to avoid an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barber shop, he saw a homeless man in the street with dirty, long hair and an untrimmed beard. The customer immediately entered the shop again and said to the barber: "You know what? Barbers do not exist!" "How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber. "I'm a barber and I'm standing right here. And I just worked on you!" "No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because if they did, there wouldn't be people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, just like that man outside your shop!" "But barbers do exist. That happens when people do not come to me." said the barber. "Exactly!" affirmed the customer. "That's the point. God does exist! See what happens when people don't go to God and do not look for Him? That's why there is so much pain and suffering in the world." Although many people question how God could create a world involving so much evil, the fact is that most of the pain and suffering in the world is caused by man's own inhumanity to mankind. I believe God exists. Why? As a Christian, I can sense God's presence, feel His love and sense His leading as I go through life's journey. Miracles have happened in my life and there are no other possible explanations other than God's interventions. God has saved me and transformed my life that I can't help but praise Him and acknowledge His existence! God has indeed provided overwhelming evidence of His existence through His creation. God will not force anyone to believe in Him. Instead, God wants people to respond to Him willingly. To those who want to know if God exists, He says, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you."
